Winter Maintenance Notice from AIM Roads– Parking Restrictions on Purcell Rd & Cathedral Rd.
We continue to experience ongoing parking issues along Purcell Rd and Cathedral Rd that are significantly impacting winter maintenance operations.
Vehicles parked along the roadway are preventing snowplows and maintenance equipment from safely accessing these streets. Our trucks are unable to pass between parked vehicles, let alone effectively remove snow between them. In addition, vehicles parked within cul-de-sacs are blocking essential turnaround areas required for safe operations.
Purcell Rd and Cathedral Rd are currently experiencing the most significant challenges; however, residents and contractors are reminded that all roadways are designated no-parking zones during winter maintenance operations. While enforcement efforts will initially focus on Purcell and Cathedral due to ongoing operational impacts, all roads are monitored and enforcement actions may occur anywhere as required to support safe and effective winter maintenance.
Over the last year, repeated notices have been issued advising that parking on the roadway during winter maintenance operations contravenes Section 188 of the Motor Vehicle Act. This legislation authorizes the removal of vehicles to a storage facility, with all associated costs charged directly to the vehicle owner.
We also remind short-term rental operators of their responsibility to inform guests of local parking and winter maintenance requirements. Failure to comply may result in vehicles being towed, with all costs recovered from the vehicle owner.
AIM Roads conducts winter maintenance activities under the authorization of the Ministry of Transportation & Transit (MOTT).
If you wish to discuss or dispute this policy, please contact MOTT directly at 250-712-3660.
We appreciate the community’s cooperation in helping keep roads safe and accessible throughout the winter season.
